As someone working in anti-trafficking advocacy, I knew a TEDx platform could help amplify my message. What I didn’t know was how to get there.
Like most people, I assumed TEDx talks were earned through merit alone. The idea of paying for help felt strange at first, almost like I was cheating the system. I’m not a marketer, I’m not an influencer, and I don’t do gimmicks. I’ve spent years in tech and corporate leadership before transitioning into advocacy. But the truth was, I had no idea how to even begin the process. I needed help organizing my story, sharpening my message, and figuring out how to land a stage.
That’s when I came across Leadr, Taylor Conroy’s company (formerly branded as Thought Leader).
At first, I rolled my eyes. The idea of someone helping “regular people” get onto TEDx stages sounded like a cleverly marketed dream. But something about Taylor’s message kept showing up in my feed. So I clicked. I watched. I signed up.
Not a Shortcut, a Structure
Many people question the idea of paying for help with something as prestigious as a TEDx talk. I get it. I felt that way too. But here’s the reality: I didn’t need someone to hand me a talk. I needed someone to help me shape one.
What I got wasn’t a shortcut, a done-for-you script, or empty hype. What I received was a real framework that included coaching, honest feedback, and step-by-step tools to take a meaningful idea and mold it into something powerful.
“They help you get to the core of what you’re saying.”
That one line summed it up for me.
From Corporate to Advocacy
I come from a background in corporate IT, but today my work is in anti-human trafficking. I know the stakes. I’ve seen firsthand how much awareness is needed around online predators, child safety, and modern slavery.
But turning lived experience into a focused, compelling 10-minute talk is a completely different skill set. That’s where Leadr came in.
I was able to revisit the platform and refresh myself on exactly what audiences are looking for. Just having everything organized and at my fingertips, ready to replay, was a game-changer. It allowed me to make progress even with a full schedule.
My Talks (So Far)
My first TEDx talk was called “Protecting Our Children from Online Predators.” I deliberately chose to bring the conversation down to what one person can do. The starting point? Talk to your kids. That message began at home but resonated far beyond.
The second talk is even broader: “Is AI Fueling Human Trafficking?” I’m delivering it in Beijing, and it explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and modern slavery. Speaking on that global stage is a direct result of the work I did with Leadr to clarify my message and prepare for real opportunities.
Real Friendships, Real Impact
One of the most unexpected benefits of the program was the community. Many of the people I met through Leadr ended up sharing the TEDx stage with me. We forged friendships based on shared purpose, shared mindset, and mutual respect. These are people I know will remain in my life for years to come.
Whether it was the coaching team or the other members in the program, there was always someone encouraging, guiding, and pushing us to level up. That energy is contagious and powerful.
Was It a Mistake?
Not even close. In fact, joining Leadr was one of the most strategic things I’ve done for my advocacy work.
Since enrolling, I’ve delivered impactful TEDx talks, contributed to global summits on child protection, and built partnerships that would have taken years to establish without the credibility that came with the TEDx platform.
Is the program perfect? No. No program is. But was it worth it? Absolutely.
The only real mistake would have been assuming that my story didn’t deserve a platform and waiting for someone else to give me one.
A Note on the Guarantee
One thing that stood out to me was their confidence in the visibility of your talk. Leadr offers a guarantee: if you follow their talk launch strategy, which is achievable and fully within your control, your talk will reach 50,000 views once it goes live. That type of follow-through matters when you care deeply about the message you’re sharing.
Final Thoughts
You’re not buying a TEDx talk. You’re building one with support, clarity, and intention.
If you have something to say and you’re ready to do the work, Leadr gives you the tools to say it on a stage that matters. For me, this wasn’t about vanity or visibility. It was about using my voice to protect children, raise awareness, and shift the global conversation around trafficking.
And I’ll never regret that.
