If you don’t utilize modern business and marketing techniques, then there is a good chance that you’ll be leaving money on the table. Worse than that though, if you fall behind for too long you may actually start to see your sales drop as your competition will be evolving and funneling all of your customers to their business.

The only thing better than adapting to changes as they come is preparing for the changes and adapting before they come. We talked to Jurgen Cautreels to find out what he thinks the marketing world will look like in 2022 so that we can prepare for it early.

Do you think we’re going to see a lot more fully-online businesses in 2022? Or on the flip side do you think these online businesses are going to start setting up brick and mortar shops?

We’ve seen a lot of fully online business in the past year or two thanks to the pandemic. A lot of in-person businesses went fully online and sold their real estate. I think it depends on what happens with Covid, but I wouldn’t be surprised if fully online businesses actually start buying up this excess real estate and moving to real-life shops. 


Do you think the tone of advertisements will change in 2022? What will be a major difference?

Yeah, I do think so. Advertising and marketing tones have gradually been getting more and more diverse. I think advertisements will become more genuine and that they will deal with social issues a lot more.

A lot of CEOs have been talking about social issues and their role in working towards a fix to those issues, so I think we will see that mindset appear in their marketing. 

Do you think any marketing strategies are going to get more popular in 2022?

Influencer and affiliate marketing are already huge at the moment. I don’t think this will change but I think it will get more professional and structured.

I think it would be smart for businesses to jump on the ball as soon as they can before influencer and affiliate marketing inevitably becomes more expensive. I have to say this, as someone who has dedicated a lot of time to the field, but I also believe NFT marketing is going to take off very soon and I won’t be surprised to see businesses experiment with the technology in 2022. 

Do you think 2022 will be an easy year for marketing?

I think creating a marketing campaign will be easy, but I think having marketing success will be harder than ever. Every business will have access to cutting-edge techniques and more businesses are always popping up so there will be a lot of competition.

It will be hard to stand out in that crowd without professional help.

Do you think customers will respond similarly to marketing in 2022 as they have in previous years?

No, I think that customers are getting more privy to marketing strategies. Every company is using the same techniques, and the same keywords so people are starting to see through all of it.

I don’t think anyone likes to be patronized or to feel like they’re being lied to. I think this is why marketing will have to evolve and be more genuine in 2022.
